Every once in awhile the stars align for an epic event. I’m not talking about Haley’s Comet or the historic presidential election. I am talking about Valentine’s Day falling on a Saturday night. But that fact alone is not what makes this an epic event. It just so happens that this year Valentine’s Day also coincides with the NBA all-star game Saturday night.
Now, we all know that the slam dunk competition has grown stale over the years. But if you tuned in last year you saw a revival as you watched Superman flying through the air with the greatest of ease. Now, before you jump ahead and tell all macho men out there to simply TiVo the event and take your lovely lady for a romantic dinner… allow me to play devil’s advocate…
First, thanks to the Internet and ubiquitious media it’s virtually impossible to TiVo a sporting event and not have the outcome ruined before you watch it. Second, this is not just your average slam dunk competition. The NBA has added the HORSE competition. Not since the Jordan/Bird McDonald’s commercial have we had this much anticipation for an event.
Now, before the comments roll in that no man should ever choose sports over romance, can we compromise on this one. How about a romantic breakfast, intimate morning, cozy lunch, suprise afternoon event… all in exchange for a free night to watch the NBA festivities. For those counting at home, that’s four Valentine’s events for one NBA event. Not a bad deal. I say take the deal and run ladies!
