Find That Separation

I’ve got to make one thing perfectly clear… working less and earning more is not about merging your work and personal life. Some folks seem to believe the idea is to multi-task and get more done in less time. For example:

  • Change the baby’s diaper while conducting a conference call.
  • Cook dinner while tweaking a client’s powerpoint presentation.
  • Wash your laundry while paying your taxes and prospecting for new business.

I’ve found that multi-tasking is really just a recipe for half-concentrating on two tasks at once… doing neither one to anyone’s satisfaction.

Instead, think about efficiency, not multi-tasking. I like to find shorter ways to get stuff done, process improvements as I call them. If you can conduct that conference call in 30 minutes instead of 60, then you can use the freed-up 30 minutes to cook a Rachel Ray 30-Minute meal!
