Does Anyone Know a Good Plumber?

plumberYou’ve heard me say it before and I’ll say it again… owning a rental property is a fantastic strategy for earning more and working less. However, there are specific days (today being one of them) when all you want to do is sell, sell, sell!!!

Why is today one of those days? Well, it’s the 15th of the month and I had to take a personal trip to visit a tenant who was yet to pay his rent. I knocked on the door eager to collect the monthly rent. Instead I was greeted with an unhappy tenant experiencing a clogged toilet and shower in the basement.

My trip to collect money had instantaneously become a trip to spend more money on fixing the problem. Two plumber estimates led to the realization that fixing this issue would cost an amount with a comma in the number. That’s enough to wipe out the positive cash flow for the month.

I’ll admit I called my wife on the ride home from the rental property to inform her of my desire to sell this property and kiss plumbing problems goodbye. My wife of course talked me out of it, reminding me there will always be days like these with a rental property.

So I’m here to say that while plumbing estimates can turn your day sour, the other eleven months of positive cash flow are enough to put a smile on your face. In addition, I’ll take a few unpleasant pipe cleanings over corporate meetings from my old life climbing the ladder.
